Swallowing Disorder

People with swallowing disorder have difficulty swallowing foods or/and liquids. Patients may have complaints of the feeling that food or liquid is hard to swallow, pain when swallowing, etc. They may also exhibit coughing, choking and regurgitation during mealtime.

Possible signs

  • Coughing or choking when eating or drinking.

  • Bringing food back up, sometimes through the nose.

  • Having the sensation that food is stuck in your throat or chest.

  • Persistent drooling of saliva.

  • Being unable to chew food properly.

  • A gurgly, wet-sounding voice when eating or drinking.

  • Long meal time
